I found this old Action Printers/Del Orser map of Cd'A/Hayden/Post Falls in a bin for 25 cents earlier this week at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. How could I pass up such a fascinating relic? A lot of changes in just 23 short years!
Extinct but not forgotten: Mr. Steak, Harvey's, The Video Station, 3rd Street Cantina, Modern Drug, FNB, Talkin' Tees, Classic Car Collection. Shown on back of map: Pizza Villa, Log Cabin Restaurant.
The Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course is shown as a huge blank space, but I believe it was still occupied by a lumber mill at the time. I90 still roared through the east end of town where Cd'A Lake Drive is now.
Compare with current maps below. Notice how barren and unpopulated Ramsey Road was heading north back then. In 1987, Lake City High School and all the sprawling neighborhoods surrounding it didn't exist.
Huge, empty plots of land where suburbia now sits in Post Falls and Hayden were mostly prairie or farmland.
